Apprenticeship opportunities
We are welcoming applicants to apply for the position of apprentice industrial insulation operative up until 01/08/2022.We are looking for:
Four motivated and committed apprentices (m/f/d). The application deadline is 01/08/2022. We are always interested in recruiting young skilled workers and we may be able to offer you a permanent contract once the apprenticeship has been successfully completed.
Job summary
Industrial insulation operatives principally manufacture thermal insulation, low temperature insulation and sound insulation structures for large industrial installations. They produce the supporting and load-bearing structures that are required and fit the insulation materials.
Overview of the apprenticeship programme
The industrial insulation operative apprenticeship is an accredited three year industrial apprenticeship programme.
Industrial insulation operatives fit insulation on pipes, containers, machinery and buildings in industrial installations in order to reduce energy loss or noise emissions, or to minimise damage caused by issues such as damp. Depending on the scope of the task involved, such as the purpose of the insulation or the on-site conditions, they plan work processes, select suitable materials and insulation techniques and organise the installation site. For example, they fit components such as insulation boards made from soundproofing materials in walls and ceilings in order to reduce the noise of machinery or they install partitioning to serve as a fire prevention measure.
They encase refrigeration systems and cold or hot water and steam pipes. They also install vapour brakes or vapour barriers which are designed to prevent water vapour from penetrating from internal spaces into wall and ceiling structures and causing damage in these areas. They encase the finished insulation with metal sheets or plastic cladding, if necessary, in order to provide protection against damage or due to weather conditions, or for optical reasons.

Industrial insulation operatives primarily work in the factories, at installation sites inside buildings or outdoors on construction sites or business premises.
- Strong physical constitution (e.g. able to lift and carry construction materials)
- Dexterous with good hand-eye coordination (e.g. when encasing insulation with metal sheets and cutting plastic moulded parts)
- Able to work with care (e.g. when working with ladders and scaffolding, and with insulation materials that contain minerals or glass)
- Able to work as part of a team (e.g. when assembling walls and ceilings)
- Mathematics (e.g. for simple calculations relating to area and materials)
- Physics (e.g. thermodynamics)
- Design Technology (e.g. when working with tools and construction equipment; technical drawings)
